Break free from the lines. DiscAim Twist is the freestyle format that turns any environment into your personal arena. Use the natural landscape or create your own challenges—bend your throws around trees, shoot through stadium soccer goals, or set custom obstacles. The terrain dictates the strategy, and your location defines the game.
A match consists of sets, which are broken down into a maximum of 9 snippets. In each snippet, players use three discs of their own color to take alternating throws toward the target.
Points are scored at the conclusion of each snippet after all six discs have been thrown. Only the discs positioned closest to the Aim-Marker than the opponent's best disc are eligible to score, with each qualifying disc counting as 1 point.
Overlap Rule: if a player's disc covers (completely or partially) an opponent's disc (overlap), that the covered disc excluded from the scoring.
A coin toss determines who throws first in the very first snippet. In all subsequent snippets, the winner of the previous snippet throws first. If a snippet ends in a tie, the player who led the throwing order in that tied snippet retains the first throw for the next one.
A set ends immediately when one player reaches 12 points. If neither player hits 12 points early, all 9 snippets are played out to determine the winner. If the score remains tied after 9 snippets, the set is decided by an Aim-Off—a sudden-death, single-throw battle.
To secure a total victory, a player must win 2 out of 3 sets, ending the match with a final score of either 2:0 or 2:1.
• Length (Play Zone):
- Short Range: 5–8 yards/meters;
- Mid Range: 9–12 yards/meters;
- Long Range: 13–16 yards/meters.
• Width (Play Zone):
- Single Court: 3 yards/meters (Compact / Pétanque-field fit);
- Multi-Court Safety Zone: 4–5 yards/meters (Tournament standard).

The Island is a designated square disc landing zone. In the Pro format, the Island measures 6 ft × 6 ft (1.83 m × 1.83 m).
• Line Inclusivity: A disc is considered inside the Island if any part of it touches or overlaps the Island boundary line.
• Placement: Before the first throw of each Snippet, the Aim-Marker is placed directly in the center of the Island.
Points are determined at the conclusion of each Snippet after all discs have been thrown.
1. Island Eligibility & Relative Scoring
Only discs located inside the Island are eligible to score. Eligible discs score 1 point each for every disc that is positioned closer to the Aim-Marker than the opponent's best eligible disc. Any covered (overlapped) disc is completely excluded from being considered the opponent's "best disc."
2. Overlap Rule
If a player's disc covers (completely or partially) an opponent's disc, that covered disc is instantly excluded from all scoring calculations for the Snippet.
• Out-of-Bounds Overlap: If an opponent's disc inside the Island is overlapped by a disc that rests outside the Island, the overlap remains valid (the covered disc is still excluded from scoring), but the out-of-bounds overlapping disc itself remains ineligible to score.
3. DBI Rule (Disc Beyond Island)
A disc located completely outside the Island incurs a penalty, awarding +1 Extra Point (EP) directly to the opponent.
• Cancellation: Extra Points incurred by both players offset each other on a 1:1 basis
(1 EP vs 1 EP = 0 EP).
4. Final Snippet Score Calculation
4.1. Island Points: Calculated based strictly on eligible discs inside the Island (factoring in Overlaps).
4.2. Penalty Adjustment: Net Extra Points from DBI penalties are added to the respective player's score.
4.3. Net Scoring (Zeroing-Out): The player with the lower overall score has their points deducted from both players' totals. The lower-scoring player always finishes the Snippet with 0 points, while the winner receives the net difference.
4.4. Ties: If the final calculated score ends in a tie, both players are awarded 0 points for the Snippet.
1. Dynamic Aim-Marker Relocation
Players are permitted to strike and displace the Aim Marker with their discs during play.
New Reference Point: If the Aim Marker is moved from its original central position, all distance measurements to determine scoring discs are taken from its new resting location.
Out-of-Bounds Displacement: If the Aim Marker is knocked completely outside The Island, measurements are still taken from eligible discs located inside the Island to the Aim-Marker’s new position outside.
2. The 6-Foot Hit Zone Limit (Out Ruler Rule)
Regardless of whether the Aim Marker rests inside or outside the Island, a strict 6-foot (1.52 m) Hit Zone limit applies to all scoring calculations:
Max Distance Threshold: Any disc located further than 6 feet (1.52 m) from the Aim Marker’s current position is instantly excluded from scoring, even if it rests inside The Island.
Measurement: Compliance with the 6-foot threshold is measured using an official Out Ruler or measuring tape from the edge of the Aim Marker to the edge of the disc.
Tactical Note: If the Aim Marker is displaced far beyond the 6-foot boundary from all discs, no discs qualify as eligible scoring discs for that Snippet (resulting in 0 Island points before DBI penalties).
Throwing Order
A coin toss determines who throws first in the very first Snippet of the match. In all subsequent Snippets, the winner of the previous Snippet throws first. If a Snippet ends in a tie, the player (or team) who initiated the throwing order in that tied Snippet retains the first throw for the next one.
Distance Rotation (3-Stage Tournament Cycle)
Throws rotate strictly through the three technical ranges in a 3-snippet repeating loop:
Snippet 1: Short Range (20 ft / ~6 m)
Snippet 2: Mid Range (28 ft / ~8.5 m)
Snippet 3: Long Range (36 ft / ~11 m)
Starting with Snippet 4, the sequence resets and repeats from Short Range.
In the 2v2 Doubles format, two teams of two players compete against each other as unified scoring units under the core Pro Rules, with the following modifications:
1. Equipment & Disc Allocation
Each player receives 2 discs (a total of 4 discs per team). All 8 discs across both teams are thrown during a single Snippet.
2. Flexible Team Rotation & Order of Play
Teams take alternating throws toward The Island. While team turns strictly alternate, members of the same team may decide the order of their throws freely based on in-game tactics.
3. Scoring & Friendly Overlaps
Team Scoring: Points, Overlaps, and DBI penalties are calculated at the team level.
Friendly Overlap: If a player overlaps their own teammate’s disc, that covered disc remains fully valid and eligible for scoring.
Opponent Overlap: Overlapping an opponent's disc excludes it from all scoring calculations for that Snippet.
4. Match Structure & Winning a Set
Set Limit: A set consists of a maximum of 9 snippets.
Target Score: A set ends immediately if a team reaches 15 points early.
Victory: If neither team reaches 15 points early, all 9 snippets are played out, and the team with the highest score wins the set. In the event of a tie after 9 snippets, the set is decided by an Aim-Off.

- Maximum diameter: no more than 25.4 cm (10 inches);
- Minimum disc size: at least 20 cm (8 inches);
- Disc thickness: no more than 2 cm (3/4 inch);
- Disc hole dimensions: minimum 10 cm (4 inches) and maximum 11.5 cm (4.5 inches).
Reference: optimal standard for discs: diameter – 23 cm (9 inches), thickness – 1 cm (0.4 inches), hole diameter – 11 cm (4.5 inches), weight – 50 g.
Note: these specifications ensure optimal safety for players and bystanders.
- Shape: circle;
- Material: plastic, wood, or rubber;
- Weight: no more than 100 g (3.5 oz), optimal 50-60 g (~2 oz);
- Diameter: no more than 11.5 cm (4.5 inches);
- Maximum height above the surface: no more than 3 cm (1 1/4 inches).
Note: a standard DiscAim disc may be used as the Aim Marker, with the hole serving as the marker itself. In this case, the disc must be either a different color from the players' discs or specially marked.
• Tee Line Restriction & Follow-Through:
At the moment of release and immediately following the throw, a player must maintain balance. Crossing the release line (or stepping over the Tee Marker) is strictly prohibited until the thrown disc has come to a complete rest.
• Support Point Zone (Disc Golf Stance):
At the moment of disc release, at least one of the player's supporting points (feet) must be positioned strictly within a designated 8 in × 12 in (20 cm × 30 cm) support zone located directly behind the Tee Marker.
• Foot Fault Penalty:
Any throw violating the stance, stepping over the line, or failing to maintain balance before the disc stops is declared a Foot Fault. A Foot Fault incurs an immediate +1 Extra Point (+1 EP) awarded directly to the opponent for that Snippet.
• Measurement Responsibility:
Players themselves conduct all distance and boundary measurements using an official Out Ruler or measuring tape, ensuring extreme care is taken not to disturb or shift any resting discs or the Aim Marker. In officiated matches, measurements are performed exclusively by the certified Referee.
• Accidental Displacement Penalty:
If a player accidentally moves, knocks, or touches any resting disc or the Aim Marker during a measurement or while walking on the court, and the exact original position cannot be mutually agreed upon and restored:
The player who caused the displacement incurs an immediate +1 Penalty Point awarded directly to the opponent for each affected disc, or forfeits the Snippet scoring for that affected disc if agreed upon by officials.
DiscAim relies upon a spirit of sportsmanship that places the responsibility for fair play on every player. Players are expected to maintain the highest standards of mutual respect, ethical conduct, and integrity during gameplay, particularly when taking measurements, determining line boundaries, and calculating final scoring. Honorable behavior, transparency, and courteous cooperation are fundamental to the sport at all levels.
